SCHOOL DESCRIPTION – LOCATION

The building which houses Gimnazija Celje – Center (Grammar School Celje-Center) was designed by the Austrian architect Richard Klass from Graz and completed in 1912 in the secessionist style. The school is situated almost in the centre of Celje, the third largest city in Slovenia, in the history known as the City of Princes and Counts.

From the very beginning the building has hosted different educational programmes. It all started with a boys’ school, continued from 1949 until 1989 as a Teacher’s College and finally since 1989 as a Grammar school. At the moment there are three different educational programmes carried out under the same roof: Grammar school, Grammar school – Art Department (Painting and Fine Arts) and Preschool teachers’ programme.

THE VISION OF THE SCHOOL

We strive to respect and help develop positive values and personal characteristics of our students and teachers, share useful knowledge, build a safe school with good communication among all its participants in the educational process, and spend time together in numerous extracurricular activities.

There are three educational programmes at Gimnazija Celje – Center. Besides the standard grammar school programme there is also a preschool education programme and for over ten years also a grammar school – painting and fine arts programme. Students are distributed into 32 classes, of which 12 belong to the preschool education programme and 4 to the art programme. In the school history a 100 % success at the external state examination (matura) has been achieved several times.

Only the best students from the primary schools in the region continue their education at our school. Together with our teachers who are all experts in their fields and who can listen to the needs of young people the success is guaranteed.

The school also has a great tradition. In a couple of years the 60th anniversary of the grammar school’s existence will be celebrated. The school is well equipped with the latest educational technology and modern laboratories to help research in subjects such as chemistry, biology and physics. We are proud of our library, sports hall and our bright and tidy classrooms. Different flowers and plants decorate our halls, students can take a rest on cushioned benches and there are many paintings and photographs on the walls. We also take care of our environment and have been awarded several times by the Tourist Association of Slovenia. Athletes, dancers, musicians and researchers have special benefits. We encourage them and we are very proud of their achievements. The students’ community organises a lot of entertaining social events every year. The biggest event of the year is our prom.

We are trying our best to make sure our students see their grammar school as the best period of time in their lives.
